Hand Sewn Trucker Hats
originally Designed for low minimums and maximum diversity!
I started designing and sewing trucker hats over 13 years ago now. I was broke and couldn’t afford to order 100 of one design from a factory so I devised my hand sewn method that allowed me to order a few panels of each design and order one yard of fabric at a time. I sewed all of them myself in the beginning. I then had help from a few local gals who were handy with a needle and thread. We’ve probably done over a thousand hats at this point.
I partnered with my best friend’s sister, the talented designer Holli Zollinger to be able to use her prints on my truckers, it gave the product even more variety. My favorite part of the whole project was watching people come into my shop and have a hard time deciding which hat to buy. Many people walked out with more than they came in for.
I had a crew of bad ass ladies who romped around in the desert, in the woods, on beaches and foreign countries to get cool photos for me to show off the hats. I love every photo I was ever sent.
We developed our Tiny-Lady-Head which was the your size of the hats. It was and still is today very popular with the ladies who have smaller noggins. We moved into flat bills and “cookies” and shopped at thrift stores for flannels and Hawaiian shirts to repurpose into panels. Still to this day some of those are my favorite hats we’ve ever made. Keenan, my talented helper found ways to keep the details from the shirts and make the hats more interesting.
The sewing has slowed today because I’m pulled in other directions, but I still pump out a couple dozen every now and again. I have a significant inventory still at Dead Mountain Design Society. The current hats are my fabric patterns and sometimes we add patches.
